Celtic considering move to bring 6 ft 3 penalty saving expert to Parkhead

Celtic are considering a move to bring a new goalkeeper to the Scottish Premiership in January, according to a fresh report.

Celtic's season so far

The Hoops have made a remarkable start to the domestic campaign having won 11, drawn three and lost none of their opening 14 games, meaning that they currently find themselves clear at the top of the table ahead of their rivals Rangers.

Whilst Brendan Rodgers doesn’t necessarily need to enter the market to improve his squad given their outstanding form, Joe Hart and Scott Bain will both have reached the expiration of their deals at the end of the season (Celtic contracts), so the manager could do with discovering the availability of goalkeepers.

Celtic signal January transfer plans; Rodgers convinced he can land targets

Celtic are keen to strengthen in January to give them an edge in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership title…

BySean Markus Clifford Nov 26, 2023

Back in 2018, Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin put pen to paper at the Bernabeu Stadium, but during that time, he’s been sent out on three loans to CD Leganes, Real Valladolid and Real Oviedo, showing how low down in the pecking order he is under Carlo Ancelotti (Transfermarkt – Lunin statistics).

The Ukraine international is typically his manager’s third-choice shot-stopper behind Thibaut Courtois and Kepa Arrizabalaga when all members of the trio are fully fit, and with his terms set to run out upon the conclusion of the current campaign (Real Madrid contracts), the 24-year-old has been highlighted as a target at Parkhead.

Celtic eyeing swoop for Andriy Lunin

According to The Daily Record, Celtic are contemplating a move for Lunin at the start of next year, and there's a chance that he could be made available due to his lack of game time and minutes at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid's backup keeper Andriy Lunin might just be available in January despite a recent run in the team. Record Sport understands he's one of the keepers under consideration at Celtic and while his recent prominence at Real might suggest he'll be a tricky man to land, Carlo Ancelotti dropped a hint that his stint in the team is coming to an end this weekend.”

Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

Lunin could be a "top goalkeeper" for Rodgers

Since the start of his career, Lunin has kept 37 clean sheets from 112 games. Standing at 6 foot 3, Real Madrid’s colossus has made 15 saves from 17 shots on target against this year, giving him a save percentage of 88.2% (FBRef – Lunin statistics), which is higher than the 72% that Hart has managed so far this season (FBRef – Hart statistics), showing that he’d be an upgrade on the existing number one.

Sponsored by Nike, the Ukrainian additionally ranks in the 98th percentile for penalty saves so he has an excellent record when it comes to spot kicks, making him a really well-rounded player and one who would surely decide the odd cup fixture here and there too.

According to Carlo Ancelotti, Lunin is a “top goalkeeper” between the sticks, so if the right opportunity was to present itself, Celtic have to fully pursue a deal for their target by trying to fend off interest elsewhere and secure his services in January.

Steven Smith's BPL participation in doubt

BCB to take a final decision after other franchises object to bending of rules to allow Comilla Victorians to rope in Smith

Mohammad Isam11-Dec-2018A question mark hangs over axed Australia captain Steven Smith’s participation in the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League, following a meeting on Tuesday that ended in a deadlock. Jalal Yunus, the BPL’s technical committee chairman who held the meeting with BPL franchise representatives, said that he asked the BCB to take a final decision on whether Smith will be eligible for the T20 tournament that begins on January 5.Smith had signed with Comilla Victorians in late November, as a replacement for Sri Lanka’s Asela Gunaratne. This is where the issue stems from: replacement players are supposed to be chosen from among the players who were in the draft in the first place, and Smith was not part of the draft.Yunus said that Comilla were allowed to contract Smith with a view to enhance the league’s appeal, but the other franchises objected to this bending of the rules, putting his participation under a cloud.”We had allowed Comilla to sign Steven Smith for the greater interest of the BPL,” Yunus said. “The bylaws said that a replacement player has to come from the [players who were in the] draft and, after we allowed Comilla, the other franchises objected. Which is why we held the meeting today but, since we couldn’t come to a conclusion, I have now referred it to the BCB.”Yunus didn’t confirm by when the BCB is likely to take a decision.

Farke could unearth surprise Gnonto replacement in 18 y/o Leeds academy whiz

Leeds United head coach Daniel Farke had plenty to deal with throughout the summer transfer window as players flooded in and out of Elland Road.

The likes of Tyler Adams, Rodrigo, Max Wober, Robin Koch, and Jack Harrison, among others, departed either permanently or on loan after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League.

Three months on and the Whites are currently third in the Championship and vying for an instant return to the top-flight but that has not stopped speculation over the future of their players.

TEAMtalk reported at the end of October that sources close to the player believe that a January transfer away from Yorkshire is possible for Wilfried Gnonto.

Leeds forward Wilfried Gnonto.

Lazio, Roma, and Everton are all said to be keen on the £25m-rated dynamo and this means that Farke could lose another first-team squad member.

However, the German head coach could unearth a surprise replacement for the 20-year-old forward in current Leeds academy whiz Connor Douglas.

Gnonto's season in numbers

The Italy international has one goal, one assist, and zero 'big chances' created in 13 Championship appearances for the club so far this season.

He is a versatile attacker who can play on either flank or through the middle as a number ten or centre-forward but has not produced the quality to go alongside that versatility this term.

Gnonto has started six league matches under Farke and this shows that his lack of contributions in the final third have not been down to a lack of chances.

It could, therefore, be a shrewd piece of business for the club to cash in on the young gem if the likes of Everton, Roma, and Lazio come in with offers, as his performances have been less-than-impressive this season.

Connor Douglas' Leeds statistics

Supporters may expect the club to dip into the transfer market to find a replacement if they do decide to sell Gnonto but Farke could use his willingness to offer chances to young players to unearth a surprise heir.

Douglas is a versatile forward, like the Italian prospect, who can play out wide on either flank and he has showcased his potential at youth level for the Whites.

The 18-year-old winger burst onto the scene with the U18s and plundered six goals and three assists in 23 appearances – with all of those goal contributions coming in 15 league matches last term.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke.

He earned himself a promotion to the U21s towards the end of the 2022/23 campaign and has racked up four goals in ten matches at that age group to date.

This means that he has 13 goals and assists combined in 33 appearances for the academy – one involvement every 2.53 matches – in comparison to the current senior ace's two in 13 Championship outings – one involvement every 6.5 clashes.

These statistics show that the talented whiz, who only turned 18 in October, has produced goals and assists far more frequently at youth level than Gnonto has for the first-team this season.

Of course, there is no guarantee that Douglas will be able to translate his form over to the senior squad but his impressive displays should not go unnoticed and Farke could look to offer him a chance to stake a claim for a place in the side if Gnonto moves on.

The head coach has already proven that age and inexperience is not a significant issue for him as 17-year-old Archie Gray has played 18 league games so far this term.

Seven questions England boss Gareth Southgate must answer against Brazil & Belgium as Euro 2024 looms

The Euros are creeping into view, and the Three Lions' squad for the tournament still has plenty of uncertainty surrounding it

Remarkably, Gareth Southgate has just two more games to assess things before he names his England squad for Euro 2024. Those matches are just around the corner too, with the Three Lions set for blockbuster meetings with Brazil and Belgium at Wembley over the coming days.

Southgate has been dealt a challenging hand this international break, largely due to injuries. These fixtures would have provided an ideal chance to get another look at Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, or even try out his Liverpool team-mate Curtis Jones, but both players are unavailable.

The same is true of several potential defensive options, meaning the Three Lions coach will be heading into the tournament not as prepared as he might have been if the fitness gods had been kinder.

Southgate cannot let these frustrations distract him from what is a vitally important few days with his players, though, as there's still plenty of questions he needs to find answers to. Below, GOAL has taken a look at seven of the biggest posers he will be looking to solve over the next two matches…

  • Getty

    Is Mainoo ready?

Kobbie Mainoo's breakout season for Manchester United could not have been timed better from an England perspective. With the Three Lions scratching around to find Declan Rice a partner in the heart of midfield, along came Mainoo, who has blown onlookers away with his displays at Old Trafford since November.

While Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Sofyan Amrabat have all struggled at points, the teenager has never let Erik ten Hag down, with his insertion into the starting line-up coinciding with United's most positive run of results this season.

Southgate made the right call moving him up to the seniors from the Under-21 camp. Now, he must be brave and hand Mainoo a start in one of the two games coming up. It may seem like a steep learning curve, but England desperately need to solve their midfield conundrum, and the Three Lions boss needs to test the youngster's mettle ahead of this summer's tournament.

    Can Henderson still start?

Mainoo is not the only midfielder with a lot riding on this international break, though. Ever since his ill-fated move to Al-Ettifaq last summer, Jordan Henderson's position in the England squad has been scrutinised more than any other player's.

Henderson is plying his trade at Ajax these days, and although Southgate has remained faithful to his trusted lieutenant, the jury is still very much out. The ex-Liverpool captain has endured a less-than-stellar start in Amsterdam, facing criticism for his overly safe passing and the side's poor results since his arrival.

Henderson's recent England performances haven't been impressive either, and while he's still almost certain to go to the tournament due to how highly Southgate seems to rate his leadership credentials, how many minutes he will actually play is less certain.

The Three Lions boss will be hoping his blue-eyed boy can silence some of the noise surrounding his continued inclusion with a good performance or two in the coming days. If he struggles again, Southgate will surely have to look elsewhere for an answer to his midfield woes.

  • Getty Images

Who's the best Plan B up front?

The thought of Harry Kane getting injured is enough to send a cold shiver down the spine of any England fan. But the Three Lions captain provided an untimely reminder of his own mortality heading into the international break, worryingly limping out of Bayern Munich's Bundesliga win over Darmstadt last weekend.

And while Kane should be fit enough to feature in some capacity against Brazil and Belgium, his knock raises an important question. Namely, just how would Southgate replace his talisman if he went down this summer?

We should have a better idea of his thinking after these games as Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins have both been included in the squad. Whichever one is handed more minutes is likely Kane's most probable replacement.

Saying that, could Southgate end up being a little more creative? Jude Bellingham has been thriving as a withdrawn centre-forward for Real Madrid this season and could feasibly perform a similar role for his country. Southgate did seem to pour cold water on this concept in a recent press conference, though, saying: "Regarding Jude, he is clearly playing as a false nine, so we need a balance between where he is doing well with something different too."

Regardless of what route Southgate wants to go down, getting a better idea of who's best placed to replace an absent Kane is an important goal for the international break.

    Who's playing left-back?

For the past few years, England have been in a position of unrivalled strength at the full-back positions, but things are not looking quite as rosy heading into the Euros. Likely first-choice left-back Luke Shaw has barely played this season due to injury, Chelsea's Ben Chilwell has endured a testing campaign for several reasons while Kieran Trippier's form has been patchy.

This leaves the starting spot very much up for grabs, with Chilwell and Joe Gomez the only realistic options deemed fit enough for this most recent squad. It seems likely Southgate will rotate the pair across the two games, with Gomez providing more defensive solidity but not without sacrificing the Chelsea vice-captain's attacking thrust.

If neither impresses, it opens the door for a fit-again Shaw or Trippier to re-stake their claims for a spot in the line-up. There is likely several more twists and turns to come as Southgate decides on his starting left-back.

Arsenal: TalkSPORT pundit says Arteta needs to start "sensational" ace now

Arsenal and manager Mikel Arteta have been told that they need to start a "sensational" player of theirs from now on.

Arsenal 1-0 Man City highlights

The Gunners maintained their unbeaten start to this Premier League season with a scrappy 1-0 win at home to last season's treble-winners Man City on Sunday. Arsenal made it six wins from a possible eight in the league, with both Arteta's side and north London rivals Tottenham being the only teams still yet to taste defeat. Neither team were at their best going forward, with City's best chances coming very early on.

Josko Gvardiol's hooked effort goalwards was cleared off the line by summer signing Declan Rice, with an Erling Haaland flick-on moments later gifting a great chance to defender Nathan Ake who blazed over from close range. The highlights arguably began and ended there for Pep Guardiola's men, as Arsenal steadily grew more and more into the game.

Arteta introduced Gabriel Martinelli, who's missed the last five games through injury, in the second half to shake things up and it was a decision which paid dividends. The Brazilian's heavily deflected effort just minutes from full-time was enough to hand Arsenal a statement three points, ensuring they head into the international break on an imperious run of domestic form.

The Arsenal manager went on to praise his players in his post-match press conference, while also stating that they've have sent a message to the rest of the division. This is what Arteta said after Arsenal's 1-0 victory over Man City:

"A great feeling obviously, you could sense it’s been so many years without beating them and today we have beaten in my opinion without a question of a doubt the best team in the world, and we've done it in a great way,"

"There were moments we had to suffer, but as well moments we showed real determination, desire and belief to beat them, so really happy. Certainly sends a message to the team, keep believing in what they are doing, they are a fantastic group of players, the way they try, the understanding, the chemistry that they have between them you sense it and you need it to beat that, today again really proud, I was proud on Wednesday when we lost the game, and I am really proud again today as well to be part of that team."

How good is Thomas Partey?

One player who's missed a fair chunk of action through injury, and played a part in Arsenal's winner when he came on, was star midfielder Thomas Partey. The Ghanaian was brought on as part a triple change by Arteta with 15 minutes left, with Partey's long-ball starting the build up to Martinelli's eventual winner.

The former Atletico Madrid star, dubbed "sensational" by La Liga expert Gerry Armstrong, was a mainstay last season, and talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent says Arteta quite simply needs to start him alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard in midfield from now on. Sharing his verdict on Partey's game time at Arsenal, Bent said on X:

"Massive result. If they're fit I only want to see Rice Partey Odegaard in MF , that is arsenal best 3 and one of the best in the league"

Arsenal v Man City: The Top 10 Most Memorable Moments

With Arsenal and Manchester City now regular title rivals, they are serving up some classic clashes almost whenever they meet one another.

This fixture dates back to 1893 when both sides went by different names, and as such, there is a rich history of unforgettable moments between the sides.

With that in mind, Football FanCast has created a list of the top ten most memorable moments between Arsenal and Manchester City.

10 2012: Mikel Arteta dents City's title hopes

Right, so we’re going back to the 2011/12 season for the first moment on our list, and it’s one that came towards the backend of the campaign which featured none other than a certain Mikel Arteta.

At the time, City were locked in an incredibly intense and entertaining title race with cross-city rivals Manchester United, whilst the Gunners were looking to cement a place in the top four ahead of their own fierce rivals, Tottenham Hotspur – in short, neither team could afford to drop points.

Unsurprisingly, the game reflected this high level of pressure and was an incredibly cagey affair from both sides. In fact, the match looked like it was heading for a 0-0 draw when it was still goalless going into the final five minutes. Well, that was until Arteta decided to do something about it.

The former Everton star stole the ball from the feet of David Pizarro on the halfway line, ran towards goal and then, from about 30 yards out, leathered the ball into the bottom corner, sending the Emirates potty.

The game ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts, and given that they finished the season in third place – just a point ahead of Spurs – it would be fair to class the goal as season-defining.

There was even a happy ending for City as well, as they would ultimately clinch the title on that most dramatic of final days at the Etihad just a month later.

9 2020: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace takes Arsenal to FA Cup final

Going from one of Arteta’s earliest contributions to Arsenal as a player to one of his earliest contributions as a manager now, with that unbelievable FA Cup run in the 2019/20 season – specifically, the semi-final against Pep Guardiola’s City side.

To call Arsenal’s Premier League campaign that year a disaster would probably be too kind, as after three managers and some genuinely embarrassing defeats, they ended up finishing in eighth. In contrast, City finished the season in second place, 25 points ahead of the Gunners.

With that in mind, it only seemed logical to view Arsenal as massive underdogs in this fixture, which was arguably reflected in Arteta’s incredibly defensive lineup. However, there is just something special about the Gunners when it comes to the FA Cup.

It took just 19 minutes for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to put his side 1-0 up, and thanks to some brilliant defending, the Gunners would maintain their lead heading into half-time. The second half played out much like the first, with Arsenal defending deep and counter-attacking where they could.

They would eventually get their second, once again through Aubameyang, and ultimately book their place in the final, where they beat Frank Lampard’s Chelsea 2-1.

8 2000: Arsenal record their biggest win against Man City

It would be fair to describe the recent history of this fixture as pretty one-sided, with Man City winning eight of the last ten games between the two sides in all competitions and registering some pretty big wins in that time as well.

However, it wasn’t always like this. In fact, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the roles were totally flipped, with the Gunners regularly beating their northern opponents, and often rather comprehensively.

That said, their game against City in October 2000 was something else entirely.

It was Ashley Cole who, on his home debut, opened the scoring just before half-time, driving a low shot into the near corner on 44 minutes. Things only got worse for the visitors in the second half as Dennis Bergkamp doubled the hosts’ lead before Sylvain Wiltord added a third.

After that, it was the turn of Thierry Henry to get involved as he scored in the 82nd and 88th minute to complete the rout.

It was as comprehensive a win as you could imagine, but as we all now know, the men in sky blue would eventually get their revenge.

7 2015: Santi Cazorla dominates City

City’s domination of this fixture has been undeniable over the last decade or so, but that is not to say that the Gunners haven’t at least had a few bright moments in an otherwise bleak period in the club’s history.

One of those moments was in their game at the Etihad in January 2015, a game that many remember purely for the mercurial brilliance of Santi Cazorla.

Despite being the clear underdogs in this encounter, the Gunners opened the scoring thanks to a clinical spot-kick from the Spaniard. The north Londoners doubled their lead in the 67th minute when Olivier Giroud got on the end of a fantastic free kick from the midfielder and headed it past Joe Hart.

While his goal contributions were ultimately what helped Arsenal emerge victorious, it was Cazorla’s all-round play that was so impressive. He bossed the midfield and was involved in everything from defence to attack.

It was a true 10/10 performance, and no Arsenal player has played that well against City since. Will that change on Sunday?

6 2023: Man City end Arsenal's title challenge

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker jostling for possession against Arsenal in the Premier League.

A more recent game now, and one that ultimately put an end to Arsenal’s title challenge last season.

The game was massively hyped up in the days and weeks beforehand. It was billed as the ultimate title decider as the Gunners had lost their buffer between themselves and the Citizens, meaning they could no longer go to the Etihad and settle for a draw; they had to win.

People were expecting an entertaining battle between the two best sides in the country, but that is not even remotely close to what happened.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the home side in the seventh minute, with John Stones making it two on the stroke of half-time. The second half wasn’t much better either, as De Bruyne got his second just nine minutes after the restart before Erling Haaland rounded off the rout in the 90th minute.

The Gunners did get a consolation goal in the 86th minute through Rob Holding, but they were thoroughly beaten, and their title charge fizzled out from there.

5 2005: Thierry Henry and Robert Pires penalty problems

When it comes to football, there are few things more straightforward than a penalty. If you’re taking it, hit it hard and true, and if you’re a ‘keeper, make yourself as big as possible and do what you can to get in the way.

Really, there isn’t much else to it – unless, of course, you’re Robert Pires and Thierry Henry in 2005.

Arsenal were hosting Manchester City at Highbury early on in the season, and, after a goalless first half, found themselves 1-0 to the good thanks to a 61st-minute penalty scored by Pires.

It looked like the Frenchman would double the Gunners’ lead just moments later when they were awarded a second penalty for a foul on Dennis Bergkamp, but nobody was prepared for what would happen next.

Instead of smashing the ball past David James in the City goal, Pires opted to pass the ball to his left for Henry to run onto and score past a confused James. However, the usually composed winger scuffed his pass, meaning Henry ran past the ball, leaving the pair looking rather foolish.

Luckily, the game finished 1-0, but as you can see below, it was a comical series of errors from Arsenal’s two brilliant attackers.

4 2022: City snatch points in controversial clash

Given the relatively one-sided nature of this fixture in recent years, it would also be fair to say that most of the recent games between Arsenal and City have been rather dull, with the Citizens more often than not running out comfortable winners.

However, that was certainly not the case in January 2022.

Albert Stuivenberg took charge of the Gunners for this game after Mikel Arteta was forced to isolate in the days leading up to the clash, but he did such a good job preparing the team that the Spaniard’s absence didn’t appear to be a problem.

His side started the game far better than City, creating countless chances against the reigning champions before Bukayo Saka finally found the back of the net after a brilliant bit of passing and interplay. Gabriel Martinelli had another gilt-edged chance later in the game and perhaps should have handed the Gunners the advantage.

However, things started to go wrong for the home side in the second half as City were awarded a questionable penalty in the 59th minute, which Riyad Mahrez duly slotted home. Things got even worse for the men in red just two minutes later when Gabriel was sent off for a second yellow after he bodychecked Gabriel Jesus, of all people, to stop a City counterattack.

From there, Arsenal opted to defend what they had rather than push on for the win, and it looked like they would at least claim a point until the very last second when Rodri found himself free in the box and calmly finished into the far corner.

It was a game that had it all, and in all honesty, one that Arsenal should have won had they taken their chances in the first half.

3 2013: Gunners capitulate in nine-goal thriller

The clash between City and Arsenal at the Etihad in December 2013 was unforgettable for several reasons. First, nine goals were scored between the two sides, making it the second-highest-scoring game between the teams since a clash in 1956 that ended 7-3 in favour of Arsenal.

Second, the 6-3 scoreline caused some of the Arsenal players to lose their cool somewhat, none more than fan favourite Jack Wilshere. In the 68th minute, moments after his side conceded a fourth to go 4-2 down, the 21-year-old turned to the City fans and flipped them off – a gesture that was perhaps more embarrassing for the player than anything else.

The Gunners would eventually lose 6-3, and as they usually would after any away game, the whole team went to their own fans to applaud them for making the effort to come and watch them – well, apart from Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker seemingly forgot this important end-of-game tradition and got an earful from compatriot Per Mertesacker for this failure to applaud the supporters.

It really wasn’t a good day at the office for the north Londoners.

2 2021: Man City thrashing consigns Arsenal to 20th place

At number two on our list of memorable moments between these two sides is their encounter in August 2021, when the Citizens eviscerated Arteta’s stumbling side.

The Gunners went into the game incredibly low on confidence as they had lost their two opening games of the season to Brentford and Chelsea. Still, there was a hope that with a strong defensive performance, they might just be able to leave the Etihad with at least a point to their name. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

City found themselves two goals to the good just 12 minutes in, and when Granit Xhaka was shown a red card in the 35th minute, they proceeded to tear the Gunners apart. City were three goals up by half-time and added another two in the second half to come away 5-0 winners.

If the loss wasn’t bad enough, Arsenal also found themselves rooted to the bottom of the table on zero points with a goal difference of -9.

1 2009: Emmanuel Adebayor's infamous celebration

Here we are, our number one pick for the most memorable moment in this long and storied fixture, and what else could it have been?

The name Emmanuel Adebayor has conjured up many different feelings for Arsenal fans over the years. He was once a fantastic player who scored 62 goals for the Gunners in 142 appearances; he is now remembered as a turncoat mercenary who opted to join Man City before signing for the club’s biggest rivals, Tottenham.

And if there was one game that likely changed the perception Arsenal fans had of their former striker more than any other, it was this one.

The game itself was highly entertaining, with the hosts scoring four goals and the visitors two, but it was City’s third goal, scored by Adebayor, that is remembered more than any other.

The Togo international scored a powerful header from Shaun Wright-Phillips’ cross, but instead of celebrating with his own fans, he opted to run the length of the pitch to knee-slide right in front of the away end that housed his former supporters.

It’s fair to say that following that celebration, Adebayor quickly turned himself into public enemy number one amongst Gooners everywhere. That said, it is one of the most iconic celebrations in Premier League history, let alone this fixture.

And there we have it, our list of the ten most memorable moments in the history of this great fixture. Will theimeeting add any more? We certainly hope so.

Everton takeover news: Respected reporter shares loan update

Everton are in the middle of a huge club takeover saga, and reliable journalist David Ornstein has revealed a significant development at Goodison Park.

Is the Everton takeover happening?

Farhad Moshiri made his first investment in the club back in 2016, but having faced lots of criticism from supporters, some of which held protests during games last season, fans were calling for him and the board to step down from their positions, as per BBC Sport.

The Toffees owner had reportedly been in talks with 777 Partners ever since the news broke that New York group MSP Sports Capital had ended it’s exclusivity agreement, and last week, Sean Dyche’s side finally announced what everyone had been patiently waiting to hear.

On Friday 15th September, it was made public that the Miami-based investment firm had agreed a deal to buy Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club following lengthy negotiations. In their multi-club portfolio, the group are in charge of the likes of Sevilla, Genoa, Hertha Berlin and Standard Liege, and if the following update is to be believed, they appear deadly serious about adding the Merseyside outfit to that list in what would be their first ever business venture in the Premier League.

What's the latest takeover update?

Taking to X, The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed that Everton have been presented with a huge loan from 777 Partners to help supply funds for the problems that need addressing in the here and now. He wrote:

Everton receive sizeable loan from prospective owners 777. Payment worth tens of millions for working capital + stadium build. US firm to provide EFC multi-club model expertise & join board in observer role during approvals process.”

Everton manager Sean Dyche.

In the Premier League, Everton have had a massively disappointing start to the new season where they find themselves in the relegation zone after suffering four defeats and securing just one draw from their opening five matches, meaning they have only a single point on the board, but whilst things aren’t looking positive on the pitch, this could be the start of an exciting new era off it.

Following the lack of success and achievements in recent years, it’s about time that the hierarchy started building towards the future, especially with their new stadium, Bramley-Moore Dock, edging ever closer to completion having been in progress for the last two years, and this is a project that is expected to be wrapped up in the closing stages of 2024.

Alongside the ground, Dyche is likely to be backed a lot more when it comes to securing his transfer targets as a result of sufficient funds being available which would allow his side to be seriously competitive in the market rather than having to pursue players on loan or free agents all the time, so there's no doubt that everyone associated with the club will be hoping that everything goes through smoothly.

-Levamos gols cedo, dificultou bastante.
