Speaking to New York City FC CEO Brad Sims said: “Really, we want to blow people away. You're at the start of your experience, as you're entering or you're walking into the facility. We think the vast majority of our fans are going to enter through the southwest, this main entrance, because we expect a lot of people to come from using public transportation, 7 train, LIRR, also a decent amount of parking is to the south as well.

“So you're going to have a lot of people walking up, and we want this ‘wow’ moment when you're coming in the stadium, that there really is this fantastic sense of arrival. The Cube, we think it's unlike anything in any other soccer stadium or any other sports venue that we've seen.”

Arsenal v Man City: The Top 10 Most Memorable Moments

With Arsenal and Manchester City now regular title rivals, they are serving up some classic clashes almost whenever they meet one another.

This fixture dates back to 1893 when both sides went by different names, and as such, there is a rich history of unforgettable moments between the sides.

With that in mind, Football FanCast has created a list of the top ten most memorable moments between Arsenal and Manchester City.

10 2012: Mikel Arteta dents City's title hopes

Right, so we’re going back to the 2011/12 season for the first moment on our list, and it’s one that came towards the backend of the campaign which featured none other than a certain Mikel Arteta.

At the time, City were locked in an incredibly intense and entertaining title race with cross-city rivals Manchester United, whilst the Gunners were looking to cement a place in the top four ahead of their own fierce rivals, Tottenham Hotspur – in short, neither team could afford to drop points.

Unsurprisingly, the game reflected this high level of pressure and was an incredibly cagey affair from both sides. In fact, the match looked like it was heading for a 0-0 draw when it was still goalless going into the final five minutes. Well, that was until Arteta decided to do something about it.

The former Everton star stole the ball from the feet of David Pizarro on the halfway line, ran towards goal and then, from about 30 yards out, leathered the ball into the bottom corner, sending the Emirates potty.

The game ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts, and given that they finished the season in third place – just a point ahead of Spurs – it would be fair to class the goal as season-defining.

There was even a happy ending for City as well, as they would ultimately clinch the title on that most dramatic of final days at the Etihad just a month later.

9 2020: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace takes Arsenal to FA Cup final

Going from one of Arteta’s earliest contributions to Arsenal as a player to one of his earliest contributions as a manager now, with that unbelievable FA Cup run in the 2019/20 season – specifically, the semi-final against Pep Guardiola’s City side.

To call Arsenal’s Premier League campaign that year a disaster would probably be too kind, as after three managers and some genuinely embarrassing defeats, they ended up finishing in eighth. In contrast, City finished the season in second place, 25 points ahead of the Gunners.

With that in mind, it only seemed logical to view Arsenal as massive underdogs in this fixture, which was arguably reflected in Arteta’s incredibly defensive lineup. However, there is just something special about the Gunners when it comes to the FA Cup.

It took just 19 minutes for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to put his side 1-0 up, and thanks to some brilliant defending, the Gunners would maintain their lead heading into half-time. The second half played out much like the first, with Arsenal defending deep and counter-attacking where they could.

They would eventually get their second, once again through Aubameyang, and ultimately book their place in the final, where they beat Frank Lampard’s Chelsea 2-1.

8 2000: Arsenal record their biggest win against Man City

It would be fair to describe the recent history of this fixture as pretty one-sided, with Man City winning eight of the last ten games between the two sides in all competitions and registering some pretty big wins in that time as well.

However, it wasn’t always like this. In fact, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, the roles were totally flipped, with the Gunners regularly beating their northern opponents, and often rather comprehensively.

That said, their game against City in October 2000 was something else entirely.

It was Ashley Cole who, on his home debut, opened the scoring just before half-time, driving a low shot into the near corner on 44 minutes. Things only got worse for the visitors in the second half as Dennis Bergkamp doubled the hosts’ lead before Sylvain Wiltord added a third.

After that, it was the turn of Thierry Henry to get involved as he scored in the 82nd and 88th minute to complete the rout.

It was as comprehensive a win as you could imagine, but as we all now know, the men in sky blue would eventually get their revenge.

7 2015: Santi Cazorla dominates City

City’s domination of this fixture has been undeniable over the last decade or so, but that is not to say that the Gunners haven’t at least had a few bright moments in an otherwise bleak period in the club’s history.

One of those moments was in their game at the Etihad in January 2015, a game that many remember purely for the mercurial brilliance of Santi Cazorla.

Despite being the clear underdogs in this encounter, the Gunners opened the scoring thanks to a clinical spot-kick from the Spaniard. The north Londoners doubled their lead in the 67th minute when Olivier Giroud got on the end of a fantastic free kick from the midfielder and headed it past Joe Hart.

While his goal contributions were ultimately what helped Arsenal emerge victorious, it was Cazorla’s all-round play that was so impressive. He bossed the midfield and was involved in everything from defence to attack.

It was a true 10/10 performance, and no Arsenal player has played that well against City since. Will that change on Sunday?

6 2023: Man City end Arsenal's title challenge

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker jostling for possession against Arsenal in the Premier League.

A more recent game now, and one that ultimately put an end to Arsenal’s title challenge last season.

The game was massively hyped up in the days and weeks beforehand. It was billed as the ultimate title decider as the Gunners had lost their buffer between themselves and the Citizens, meaning they could no longer go to the Etihad and settle for a draw; they had to win.

People were expecting an entertaining battle between the two best sides in the country, but that is not even remotely close to what happened.

Kevin De Bruyne opened the scoring for the home side in the seventh minute, with John Stones making it two on the stroke of half-time. The second half wasn’t much better either, as De Bruyne got his second just nine minutes after the restart before Erling Haaland rounded off the rout in the 90th minute.

The Gunners did get a consolation goal in the 86th minute through Rob Holding, but they were thoroughly beaten, and their title charge fizzled out from there.

5 2005: Thierry Henry and Robert Pires penalty problems

When it comes to football, there are few things more straightforward than a penalty. If you’re taking it, hit it hard and true, and if you’re a ‘keeper, make yourself as big as possible and do what you can to get in the way.

Really, there isn’t much else to it – unless, of course, you’re Robert Pires and Thierry Henry in 2005.

Arsenal were hosting Manchester City at Highbury early on in the season, and, after a goalless first half, found themselves 1-0 to the good thanks to a 61st-minute penalty scored by Pires.

It looked like the Frenchman would double the Gunners’ lead just moments later when they were awarded a second penalty for a foul on Dennis Bergkamp, but nobody was prepared for what would happen next.

Instead of smashing the ball past David James in the City goal, Pires opted to pass the ball to his left for Henry to run onto and score past a confused James. However, the usually composed winger scuffed his pass, meaning Henry ran past the ball, leaving the pair looking rather foolish.

Luckily, the game finished 1-0, but as you can see below, it was a comical series of errors from Arsenal’s two brilliant attackers.

4 2022: City snatch points in controversial clash

Given the relatively one-sided nature of this fixture in recent years, it would also be fair to say that most of the recent games between Arsenal and City have been rather dull, with the Citizens more often than not running out comfortable winners.

However, that was certainly not the case in January 2022.

Albert Stuivenberg took charge of the Gunners for this game after Mikel Arteta was forced to isolate in the days leading up to the clash, but he did such a good job preparing the team that the Spaniard’s absence didn’t appear to be a problem.

His side started the game far better than City, creating countless chances against the reigning champions before Bukayo Saka finally found the back of the net after a brilliant bit of passing and interplay. Gabriel Martinelli had another gilt-edged chance later in the game and perhaps should have handed the Gunners the advantage.

However, things started to go wrong for the home side in the second half as City were awarded a questionable penalty in the 59th minute, which Riyad Mahrez duly slotted home. Things got even worse for the men in red just two minutes later when Gabriel was sent off for a second yellow after he bodychecked Gabriel Jesus, of all people, to stop a City counterattack.

From there, Arsenal opted to defend what they had rather than push on for the win, and it looked like they would at least claim a point until the very last second when Rodri found himself free in the box and calmly finished into the far corner.

It was a game that had it all, and in all honesty, one that Arsenal should have won had they taken their chances in the first half.

3 2013: Gunners capitulate in nine-goal thriller

The clash between City and Arsenal at the Etihad in December 2013 was unforgettable for several reasons. First, nine goals were scored between the two sides, making it the second-highest-scoring game between the teams since a clash in 1956 that ended 7-3 in favour of Arsenal.

Second, the 6-3 scoreline caused some of the Arsenal players to lose their cool somewhat, none more than fan favourite Jack Wilshere. In the 68th minute, moments after his side conceded a fourth to go 4-2 down, the 21-year-old turned to the City fans and flipped them off – a gesture that was perhaps more embarrassing for the player than anything else.

The Gunners would eventually lose 6-3, and as they usually would after any away game, the whole team went to their own fans to applaud them for making the effort to come and watch them – well, apart from Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker seemingly forgot this important end-of-game tradition and got an earful from compatriot Per Mertesacker for this failure to applaud the supporters.

It really wasn’t a good day at the office for the north Londoners.

2 2021: Man City thrashing consigns Arsenal to 20th place

At number two on our list of memorable moments between these two sides is their encounter in August 2021, when the Citizens eviscerated Arteta’s stumbling side.

The Gunners went into the game incredibly low on confidence as they had lost their two opening games of the season to Brentford and Chelsea. Still, there was a hope that with a strong defensive performance, they might just be able to leave the Etihad with at least a point to their name. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

City found themselves two goals to the good just 12 minutes in, and when Granit Xhaka was shown a red card in the 35th minute, they proceeded to tear the Gunners apart. City were three goals up by half-time and added another two in the second half to come away 5-0 winners.

If the loss wasn’t bad enough, Arsenal also found themselves rooted to the bottom of the table on zero points with a goal difference of -9.

1 2009: Emmanuel Adebayor's infamous celebration

Here we are, our number one pick for the most memorable moment in this long and storied fixture, and what else could it have been?

The name Emmanuel Adebayor has conjured up many different feelings for Arsenal fans over the years. He was once a fantastic player who scored 62 goals for the Gunners in 142 appearances; he is now remembered as a turncoat mercenary who opted to join Man City before signing for the club’s biggest rivals, Tottenham.

And if there was one game that likely changed the perception Arsenal fans had of their former striker more than any other, it was this one.

The game itself was highly entertaining, with the hosts scoring four goals and the visitors two, but it was City’s third goal, scored by Adebayor, that is remembered more than any other.

The Togo international scored a powerful header from Shaun Wright-Phillips’ cross, but instead of celebrating with his own fans, he opted to run the length of the pitch to knee-slide right in front of the away end that housed his former supporters.

It’s fair to say that following that celebration, Adebayor quickly turned himself into public enemy number one amongst Gooners everywhere. That said, it is one of the most iconic celebrations in Premier League history, let alone this fixture.

And there we have it, our list of the ten most memorable moments in the history of this great fixture. Will theimeeting add any more? We certainly hope so.

Everton takeover news: Respected reporter shares loan update

Everton are in the middle of a huge club takeover saga, and reliable journalist David Ornstein has revealed a significant development at Goodison Park.

Is the Everton takeover happening?

Farhad Moshiri made his first investment in the club back in 2016, but having faced lots of criticism from supporters, some of which held protests during games last season, fans were calling for him and the board to step down from their positions, as per BBC Sport.

The Toffees owner had reportedly been in talks with 777 Partners ever since the news broke that New York group MSP Sports Capital had ended it’s exclusivity agreement, and last week, Sean Dyche’s side finally announced what everyone had been patiently waiting to hear.

On Friday 15th September, it was made public that the Miami-based investment firm had agreed a deal to buy Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club following lengthy negotiations. In their multi-club portfolio, the group are in charge of the likes of Sevilla, Genoa, Hertha Berlin and Standard Liege, and if the following update is to be believed, they appear deadly serious about adding the Merseyside outfit to that list in what would be their first ever business venture in the Premier League.

What's the latest takeover update?

Taking to X, The Athletic’s David Ornstein confirmed that Everton have been presented with a huge loan from 777 Partners to help supply funds for the problems that need addressing in the here and now. He wrote:

Everton receive sizeable loan from prospective owners 777. Payment worth tens of millions for working capital + stadium build. US firm to provide EFC multi-club model expertise & join board in observer role during approvals process.”

Everton manager Sean Dyche.

In the Premier League, Everton have had a massively disappointing start to the new season where they find themselves in the relegation zone after suffering four defeats and securing just one draw from their opening five matches, meaning they have only a single point on the board, but whilst things aren’t looking positive on the pitch, this could be the start of an exciting new era off it.

Following the lack of success and achievements in recent years, it’s about time that the hierarchy started building towards the future, especially with their new stadium, Bramley-Moore Dock, edging ever closer to completion having been in progress for the last two years, and this is a project that is expected to be wrapped up in the closing stages of 2024.

Alongside the ground, Dyche is likely to be backed a lot more when it comes to securing his transfer targets as a result of sufficient funds being available which would allow his side to be seriously competitive in the market rather than having to pursue players on loan or free agents all the time, so there's no doubt that everyone associated with the club will be hoping that everything goes through smoothly.

Root taken to hospital with gastroenteritis

Joe Root, the England captain, was admitted to hospital in Sydney, suffering from severe dehydration, amid doubts as to whether he would be fit to resume his rearguard in the fifth and final Test at the SCG.In the end, Root did appear during the morning session, batting for an hour and taking his overnight 42 not on to 58 at lunch. However, he was again unable to continue after the interval and did not attend the post-match presentations after England were dismissed for 180 to lose by and innings.”He’s not had any sleep. He’s not eaten. He’s had diarrhoea and he’s been vomiting, so I guess he’s not in great state,” James Anderson, England’s vice-captain, said. “To get to the ground was a great effort, and to strap his pads on and bat for as long as he did was a brilliant effort and showed exactly what sort of character he is.”He wants to lead by example in this team. He’s been a fantastic captain on this tour and it shows what sort of person he is to make that sort of effort to get out on the field. I just hope it’s not too serious and he can sleep it off now and get better before the one-dayersRoot, who batted for three hours on fourth day, had been in the field for all but six overs of the hottest day on record for a Test match in Australia. Temperatures in some parts of Sydney reached 47.3C, the highest in the city for 79 years.Root succumbed to bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting overnight, and did not arrive at the ground until after the start of play. It was later announced by the ECB that Root was suffering from a viral gastroenteritis bug, rather than the effects of heat exhaustion.A groggy-looking Joe Root takes on fluids•Getty Images

Already 3-0 down in the series, England were precariously placed on 93 for 4 overnight, needing another 210 runs to make Australia bat again. Moeen Ali took the field alongside Jonny Bairstow at the start if play but Root was fit enough to resume his innings after Moeen’s dismissal on the hour mark, and soon moved to his fifty.Asked how Root had found the tour, Anderson said: “I imagine extremely difficult. Ask any captain who has toured Australia, it’s not an easy place to come. Especially when on wrong end of results. The way he’s carried himself has been a credit to himself. He’s been fantastic the whole way through, as a guy he’s not looked down at any stage. He’s led the guys brilliantly both on and off the field. He should be very proud of what he’s done on this trip.”Before it was made clear that Root was affected by a virus, there had been speculation about the damaging effects of playing in high temperatures. Dean Jones, the former Australia batsman who famously ended up on a drip after making 210 in oppressive heat during the tied Test in Madras in 1986, stated on Twitter that the sport needs to take the issue of exposure to extreme conditions more seriously.”After speaking to a couple of doctors this morning.. in my opinion cricket should be called off after 41C," Jones wrote. "It’s a workplace issue now.. just my opinion.”

Everton Could Sign ‘Electric’ £22m Calvert-Lewin Partner

Everton Director of Football Kevin Thelwell is believed to be strongly considering a late swoop to complete the club's attack this summer.

Youssef Chermiti has been signed for £15m from Sporting Lisbon, but is inexperienced and only 19-years-old, while dynamic forward Arnaut Danjuma has also been secured on a season-long loan.

The Premier League club finished 17th last term as the second-lowest scorers, but such subpar cutting edge could be transformed with the signing of Patson Daka.

What's the latest Everton transfer news?

According to Football Transfers, the Toffees are 'strongly considering' a move for a Leicester City player, who suffered relegation from the English top-flight with the Foxes this year after Everton's final-day victory over Bournemouth.

Read the latest Everton transfer news HERE…

That happens to be the exciting Patson Daka. He only signed for his current outfit from RB Salzburg for £22m in 2021, and it is no surprise that the attacker is leaning toward an exit this summer given his array of qualities.

The player is now valued at £17m, as per Football Transfers.

How good is Patson Daka?

Having only scored 15 goals and supplied eight assists from 74 matches for Leicester, Daka did not live up to the same prolific heights in Austria that saw him plunder 27 goals from 28 league matches for the imperious Bundesliga champions.

While he has not quite emulated his former feats on English soil, the Zambian forward remains a slippery figure with "electric pace" and a "ruthless" approach to his attacking output, as described by journalist Ryan Taylor.

Despite his down-swing in direct contributions – and peripheral role, starting just 13 Premier League matches last term – the 35-cap international still ranks among the top 2% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for assists, the top 16% for tackles, the top 5% for interceptions and the top 10% for blocks per 90, as per FBref.

patson-daka-everton-transfer-news-opinion-premier-league

The defensive metrics are likely a big reason behind Everton's supposed interest, with manager Sean Dyche preferring to implement a direct, defensive style, and his creativity and 'electricity' could prove to get the best out of the struggling Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 26-year-old Englishman has been hampered by consistent injury problems over the past few years, missing 46 matches of competitive action since the start of the 2021/22 campaign, and while he has scored 60 goals from 209 outings for the Goodison Park side, he clinched only two from 18 matches last year.

The 6 foot 2 marksman, who utilises his aerial dominance to great effect, ranking among the top 8% of forwards for aerial wins per 90, has undergone a 'factory reset' this summer as he strives to rekindle the form that saw him earn 11 England caps – scoring four goals – and be hailed as a "monster" by talent scout Jacek Kulig.

Daka's creativity and pace could open up the field of play and provide Calvert-Lewin with the perfect strike partner, with the differing skill sets perhaps blending together to finally restore some of the panache to the Toffees frontline, in what could be a pivotal moment for the club as Dyche looks to navigate away from the danger area this year.

Man United: Ten Hag wants deal for "monster" done "before" Wolves

Manchester United are "very interested" in Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund, and talks between the two clubs have been "positive", but a gap in valuation still proves to be the biggest obstacle to this deal, claims Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Is Rasmus Hojlund joining Manchester United this summer?

It has been a great transfer window for Manchester United so far this summer.

It all started a bit slow as the news around the club was dominated by constant takeover talk, but as time progressed, the three-time European champions have some significant improvements to their first team.

The first name through the door at Old Trafford was Chelsea academy star and England international Mason Mount, who should slot right into Erik ten Hag's midfield next season and help to give that area of the team some much-needed depth.

Following him was Andre Onana, who, after the departure of David de Gea, was an essential signing to get over the line, and considering the hype around him and how important he has been for Inter Milan, the £47m fee seems relatively reasonable.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana.

With two areas of the team already sorted, attention swiftly turned to the front line, specifically striker, where Marcus Rashford has had to fill in frequently over the years.

The forward most heavily linked to the Red Devils in recent weeks has been Danish prospect Hojlund, who has attracted the attention of the wider footballing world after just one season for the Bergamo side.

According to transfers expert Fabrizio Romano United will submit an official bid for the Dane this week. However, they hold much of the negotiating power with four years left to run on the 20-year-old's £10,500-a-week contract.

The length of his contract, United's desire to sign him and the general hype around the player could all make any deal prohibitively expensive, as the Daily Mail have reported that the Italian side want £86m for their man and considered United's initial idea of £45m 'derogatory'.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Rasmus Hojlund and Manchester United?

Sheth was clear that despite initial talks between the sides being positive, a gap in valuation still exists, and the Red Devils are yet to formalise their interest in the Danish striker.

However, this will likely change very soon given the club's desire to have their transfer business sorted by their opening Premier League game on August 14th.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: "They're very interested in Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. They see him as one for the future but probably for now as well, given Manchester United's budgetary constraints.

"There's still a big gap in valuation, although there have been positive talks with Atalanta. But there is no agreement on price and no formal bid as yet.

"We expect Manchester United to formalise that interest after those positive talks sooner rather than later, simply because we've only got about three weeks until the season starts.

"I think Manchester United want to get everything sorted before their opening game against Wolves."

How good is Rasmus Hojlund?

It might seem rather outlandish for a club to demand so much money for one of their players after they have played only a single season in a top-five league, but Hojlund, who has been hailed as a "monster", does appear to have all the raw ingredients to make a genuinely great striker in the future.

Last season, for example, he started just 20 games for Atlanta in Serie A but still managed to score nine goals and provide two assists, which, with his 1836 minutes of league action, gives him a goal involvement every 166 minutes or one every 1.85 games, per WhoScored.

His underlying numbers help to show that his impressive performances are not just fortunate either, and if he was given an entire season of starts, he could score even more.

According to FBref, who compare players in a similar position across Europe's top five leagues, the 6 foot 3 "monster" sits in the top 1% for progressive passes received, the top 7% for touches in the oppositions penalty area, the top 16% for non-penalty expected goals, the top 17% for successful take-ons, the top 25% for progressive carries, and the top 28% for non-penalty goals and shot-creating actions, all per 90.

He has certainly made his mark at Atalanta and impressed club captain Rafael Toloi, who said:

"Hojlund is a great talent, physically strong and with great speed. He has everything he needs to be great and is working with the right coach and with the right team."

While the price may be exorbitant, if United can get this deal over the line, it seems well worth taking the short-term pain for what Hojlund could do for the club over the next decade or more.

£47m Man United Signing Rips Into Harry Maguire After Error

Getting off on the right foot with your new teammates is always ideal. It can build the foundation for success. At the same time, however, managers will be keen to see their new arrivals slot straight in, and become happy to give players an honest truth or two, should it be required. This is the case for Andre Onana at Manchester United, too. Goalkeepers must always be commanding, it’s part of the job, so Erik ten Hag would have been hoping for his new number one to deliver some orders straight away. And, in fairness to Onana, he wasted no time in the Red Devils’ recent friendly defeat against Borussia Dortmund. It came as little surprise that it was Harry Maguire who faced the goalkeeper’s wrath for the first time, with Onana seemingly scolding the struggling defender.

Andre Onana rips into Harry Maguire

As you can see from the video, Maguire was lost for words after Onana came charging towards him, ripping into the defender in ruthless fashion.

The moment came after the goalkeeper was forced to make an incredible save to deny Dortmund a third before the hour mark, having already found themselves 2-1 up. Maguire had played his part in a cheap turnover of possession as he gave the ball to Christian Eriksen who was already under pressure, allowing the opposition to win it and quickly spring into a counterattack.

Ten Hag’s side initially got off to the perfect start, finding the opening goal in the 24th minute, courtesy of Diogo Dalot’s excellent strike from outside the area.

Things quickly went downhill, though, with two goals in the space of two minutes from Donyell Malen flipping the game on its head.

Antony handed United a short reprieve, before substitute Youssoufa Moukoko found the winning goal for the Bundesliga side in the 71st minute.

Ten Hag will be left frustrated with the result, especially with the goals conceded as the Premier League season approaches.

Onana, meanwhile, proved that he’s not afraid to be honest with the defenders in front of him if he believes that they are not up to scratch.

How have Manchester United performed in pre-season?

Manchester United have had mixed results in pre-season. They got off to a solid start by beating rivals Leeds United 2-0, before going on to defeat Lyon 1-0, and then fellow Premier League side Arsenal 2-0.

A youthful United side then suffered a 3-1 defeat against Wrexham, before the first-team struggled against Real Madrid, losing 2-0. Making it three consecutive defeats, the Manchester club most recently lost 3-2 against Borussia Dortmund.

So, overall, they’ve won three and lost three in a pre-season that leaves their Premier League campaign a tough one to predict.

With their season getting underway on Monday, 14 August against Wolverhampton Wanderers, United will be hoping to finish their preparations with a flourish more than anything, as games against Lens and Athletic Bilbao come their way.

By the time the new season gets underway, it remains to be seen whether Onana will be forced to deal with the struggling Maguire, with the defender linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, West Ham United have seen a £20m bid rejected for Maguire, but are unlikely to push any further.

Southampton Transfer News: Russell Martin Eyeing Dortmund Academy Graduate

According to reports, Southampton are considering a move for Hoffenheim winger Jacob Bruun Larsen this summer. The Borussia Dortmund academy graduate could be available for a cut-price, with his current contract set to expire next summer.

What's the latest on Southampton and Jacob Bruun Larsen?

The Saints are weighing up a move for Larsen, as per The Daily Mail, who report that the Championship side have space in their squad for another winger following the departures of Theo Walcott, Mohamed Elyounoussi, and Mislav Orsic this summer.

After a difficult campaign last time out, and with his contract set to expire next summer, the winger could reportedly be available for a cheaper price than previously valued. According to Transfermarkt, Larsen is currently worth €3m (£2.56m). Though, with that said, it remains to be seen how much Hoffenheim might demand for his signature, should Southampton continue to pursue a deal, with his contract situation sure to be a major factor in negotitations.

So far this summer, Southampton have welcomed three players in total, with Shea Charles arriving from Manchester City, Ryan Manning joining from Swansea City, and Mateusz Lis signing from Troyes.

All three signings will be hoping to provide the required impact to get the Saints up to the Premier League next season. Add Larsen to that, and Russell Martin could have himself a side more than capable of winning the title in the coming campaign, clearly using this summer window to add exciting young talent to his ranks.

Should Southampton sign Jacob Bruun Larsen?

Set for at least one season in the Championship next season, Southampton can't afford to get things wrong in the transfer window this summer, as they look to bounce straight back to the Premier League.

Larsen represents a risky move, howeve – the Denmark international struggled for fitness last season, missing a total of 16 games throughout the course of Hoffenheim's season. The last thing that the Championship side need is an injury-prone winger.

Meanwhile, when he did feature, Larsen found the back of the net just once in 15 appearances. That's not to say the 24-year-old doesn't have promise – in the 21/22 season, the winger managed seven goal involvements, in what was meant to be used as a platform for bigger and better things in Germany. It simply hasn't worked out though.

A move to St Mary's would represent a fresh start, and, statistically speaking, he'd be an upgrade on the likes of Walcott. As per FBRef, Larsen made more progressive carries, just one less progressive pass, and attempted more take-ons than the former Arsenal man last season.

So, whilst the move has its risks, the Hoffenheim winger is a player who could really burst into life with his next move. An international too, Southampton would be getting themselves a player with plenty of experience in spite of the fact that he's only 24.

With a long summer ahead, it remains to be seen whether the Saints continue to pursue a move for Larsen, as they hope to return to England's top flight at the first time of asking.
